Like the Delaware, this river runs through the city of Philadelphia as well. Citizens of Philadelphia are lucky to have such access to these rivers. This river is more angler friendly with easily accessible spots and a variety of fish. There are over 40 different species of fish in this river as well. Many of the fish species in this river are similar to the one's found in the Delaware. However, there is the inclusion of one specific fish species that is rare in this river which is the flathead catfish. This fish will be examined later on. One of the special parts of this river is how it is located at Philadelphia landmarks. Some of these landmarks are the art museum, the Fairmount waterworks, and the fairmount dam. Many Philadelphia anglers meet up at these locations to go fishing with each other. Below, is a photo album of these locations with fish being caught at them. In these photo's below are different variety of fish which includes: walleye, hickory shad, rock bass, common carp, and a flathead catfish. Further on two fish species that will be looked at are the flathead and the common carp.
As mentioned earlier the Flathead catfish is another invasive species of fish. This fish is similar to the snakehead in how The Fish and Game commission orders for anglers to kill it. This fish is known for its size because it can reach up to 20 to 30 lbs. A small one is considered to be 10 pounds which is already big. Methods of fishing for them are using shrimp, bagels, cut baitfish, chicken liver, etc. Fishing for these fish is an art as well because they only come around mainly during the summer. Some Philadelphia fisherman are hardcore fisherman and only go after these fish. Fishing for these guys is a culture in itself because anglers will go out as groups at night searching for this fish. The next popular fish that can be caught in this river is the common carp. This fish can reach large sizes like the flathead. However, this fish is native and does not have to be killed. Many anglers in Philadelphia go after these guys because of the fight these fish can put up. These fish can reach size of 5+ to 40+ pounds on this river. The method of catching them is using corn, bread, and other homemade paste fishing products. Philadelphia fisherman also forms groups for these fish and go out together in search of them. Many practice of a method of fishing called, catch, photo, and release or also known as CPR. This form of fishing makes it fun for groups to get together and to go out fishing.
